• Oilfield Mathematics is the application of general mathematics for calculations that are likely to be encountered in the oilfield. Although, majority of the mathematical computations have been incorporated into programming softwares used in the oil and gas industry, nevertheless, the only joy of any geoscientist and/or reservoir engineer, which goes beyond just clicking of buttons on the computer, is to understand the fundamental principles of mathematics, chemistry and physics used to arrive at successful geologic and engineering interpretation which helps maximize oil recovery from the subsurface reservoir. It also helps in solving problems that are related to subsurface pore-pressure prediction and volumetric estimation of hydrocarbon in place (STOIIP), as well as risk management decision.

• As a petroleum geophysics postgraduate student, who also is a registered student of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), for six (6) consecutive years, I frequently attend the association's international conference and exhibition where petroleum knowledge that cuts across geology, geophysics, petrophysics and petroleum/reservoir engineering is usually updated, by means of meeting with experts with diversified oil and gas experience, and by attending technical paper presentation sessions. Additionally, I was in attendance at the last oil and gas international conference that took place in November, at Eko Hotel and Suite. This was necessary to acquire further industrial knowledge

• I have had a work experience as a trainee with an oil and gas servicing company, Energy and Mineral Resources Limited, where I was exposed to the rudiments and advanced theory and practical applications of geosciences and petroleum engineering, and I do believe this has contributed to my confidence to give you the best result.

• I am currently working on combining spectral decomposition, a complex mathematics that breaks down seismic signal into different frequency components, thereby transforming the signal from time to frequency domain to reveal conventionally hidden information, via the usage of mathematical Fourier transformation, together with amplitude-variation-with-offset (AVO), which also uses complex mathematical linearized Zeoppritz's equations to enhance understanding and interpretation, in order to better characterize gas-sands present in a thin-bedded reservoir.

MY METHOD OF TEACHING AND INSTRUCTIONAL AIDS

• My method of teaching this course shall involve making the student do some smart work of thinking, reasoning and building up the structure of knowledge. This will consist of several questions urging student to build up reasoning and concepts, after series of explanations and solved examples. In case any of the students lack basics of lower classes, then effort will be made to build a good foundation, running through the fundamentals with the use of videos available online, or on my electronic device. With this, we may require the use of a projector and laptop. Connections will also be created between lesson for a proper workflow.

• These, shall help, to reinforce and supplement the communication during the presentation of the lesson. In summary, the teaching method shall comprise of visual (charts/graphs, displays, models, pictures), audio-visual (sound motion pictures, slides on sound etc.) and connectivity of new lessons with the old (whereby new and related topics would be treated by making reference to the previous topics that serves as a prerequisite to the new one). Such methods and interaction will make the student(s) feel friendly and confident with the subject and related fields. Also needed would be scientific calculator and graph sheets for plotting and observing emperical relationships between some reservoir properties/parameters.

• Oilfield mathematics is used to solve the flow of oil and gas in porous media, and partial differential equations are at the core of reservoir simulation and geostatistical modeling. These understandings will enable me to follow a proper work flow in delivering the lectures to satisfy my clients. From past experience as a teacher, the use of appropriate method and instructional aids to teach students has always contributed to better understanding and improvement of examination grades. This is enough reason why I should be hired for this responsibility.
