As a tutor I adopt effective methods of teaching accounting to my students. Having taught accounting to secondary school students and prepared students for exams at Waec level, I make sure to;
> emphasize the positive by telling the
students how easy it is to study accounting.
> Illustrate every accounting generalization with examples drawn from previous student's experiences.
> Talk in simple terms by watering down some technical terms in accounting right from the beginning.
> Urge the student to think on terms of fundamental elements in accounting. They should reflect on the concepts of debit and credit.
> Be sure to teach the Why of any transaction. Why do we debit in the cash book?; and
> Always use instructional materials in teaching accounting.
I make my class very interactive as this facilitates learning at ones own pace and stimulates active involvements.
