Technology can be defined as the application of scientific knowledge to solve human needs and comfort. Technology deals with applying science to solve other people’s problems. Using a broader definition of technology, it is customary to include all of the artifacts humans have invented to improve their lives.
Basic technology is therefore the study of the rudiments of the application of scientific knowledge to create human needs or proffer solution to human problems.
Basic Technology aims at introducing students to technology and stimulating their interest in the subject from the beginning of their secondary school education. My teaching of basic technology has spurred many students to develop passionate interest on the subject. Basic technology is complex and one of the ways to make students understand it is to ‘discuss’ it instead of ‘lecture’ it. I use interactive and discussion methods to teach my students the various aspects of basic technology. I have been commended by colleagues, parents and students as a result of excellent performances of the students I coached on the subject on internal and external examinations. I have four years teaching experience of basic technology.

Having been in British and American systems of education and taught students/pupils using their curriculums, I found out that in primary/elementary school stage, the level of learning using British curriculum is substantially higher. However, it seems to me that the American curriculum picks up.
