I’ve been teaching essay writing for over 20 years and aware of all it takes to bring out a very good writing. I’ve won essay competitions and also made my students win. I will always discuss the types of essays and audience so that my students will not write out of point. I use a variety of techniques to open up my students’ minds to styles of writing and how to catch the attention of the reader. I expose them to various articles and brilliant writers especially showing how to create effects and awe their readers. I always bring to class topical issues that cross across cultures, regions and technology and make them aware. However, I teach the basics that will allow them mind their spellings, vocabulary, punctuations, etc. I give a lot of exercises on grammar, collocations, collateral adjectives, semantics, idioms, paragraphing, etc. I discuss clichés and how to turn them around and look impressive.
I encourage the students to write many drafts and give a perfect writing in the long run. Time management and editing are especially emphasized and I give tips on these aspects.
There is no boring moment with me because I don’t just teach, WE discuss and work on various tasks.
