In teaching this topic it is important to let the students understand that they are not being asked to do something they can't do or don't have the capacity for.

In the course of teaching this topic over the years, I have being able to let my students come to the realization that essay writing is not such a big deal as they have what it takes to write a good essay.

My last student performed very poorly in his exam, all I did was to take the same essay question he couldn't answer; took him through the process of essay writing and gave him a test which he did very well to my full satisfaction.

My teaching technique involves letting my students know that Essay writing mostly involves using the power of their imagination to write creatively. And we all have the power to visualize a concept that we may not have seen physically.

Also, I let them know that there are different types of Essays hence the first thing about writing a good essay is to understand the topic of the essay because each essay has different rules of engagement.

Then I encourage my students to visualize what they are going to write about and write down their thoughts to form an outline and to arrange the outline in order of relevance.
This outline is what they will develop to form a very good essay, using good sentence joiners in different paragraphs.

Also, I let my students know how to use catchy phrases, relevant idiomatic expressions to drive home their points and they also need to check their spellings; grammar and punctuation. And this techniques usually makes the Students better in essay writing.

To achieve the kind of satisfactory results all I need as a tutor is a student's attention in a serene environment.
