How I can help
Quantitative Reasoning
More than 3 years experience
While teaching Quantitative Reasoning, I have realized that using multiple choice questions has made many pupils just "play the raffle" to choose answers without seriously thinking around the questions. In consonance with the belief of building the capacity of thinking through problems in my pupils at this stage of learning, I usually do not start with multiple choice questions. That is to enable the pupils not to focus on the options in a multiple choice question but rather think hard to get a solution. I tell my pupils that Quantitative Reasoning is like solving a puzzle.
In Quantitative Reasoning, no logic is stupid. It may not be needed for this particular problem but it will be needed for some other question.
Also, in solving Quantitative Reasoning problems, the four basic mathematical signs ( plus, minus, division and multiplication signs) are key. Others include square root, square, cube root, cube, less than, greater than, equal to, etc should be at the back of the pupils' minds. I always emphasize this.
