In a society as communication driven as ours, the need for effective communication for every one cannot be over emphasized. It is the Language of Education, trade and even 'phatic' communication. Therefore, this basic requirement cannot be brushed aside or substituted for another skill. It is a must have, a necessity regardless of class or gender. It is with this understanding that I introduce my students to the Language.
Lessons are designed with a focus on the learner's ability to communicate clearly, accurately and effectively in both speech and writing whether at a professional or academic level. I have prepared a ton of students for National and International Examinations ranging from WAEC, NECO and GCE, to IGCSE, IELTS and TOEFL, and successfully coached learners who emerged with a 3.5 - 4.0 CGPA and band scores of 6.0 and above, depending on the learner's ability and all other factors considered.
A major consideration in acing any given examination is knowledge of the expectations of the test marker. A fore knowledge of what is expected on the part of the test taker, is an advantage that every test taker must first have. In passage reading, an understanding of the question type , whether multiple choice , sentence summary, sentence completion or idea matching, will greatly help. And in writing, a basic idea of the structure of the selected essay type will contribute immensely to a better score as the test taker expresses his knowledge of an adequate vocabulary, grammatical accuracy, proper paragraphing and idea generation. An in depth knowledge of the phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and stylistics of the English language is achievable even as a second language speaker. More so, in a country that like ours that has adopted the English language as the language of Education.
