Mathematics is the easiest subject to learn, understand and pass in both internal and external examinations. I have taught the subject for over 6 years and my approach to teaching the subject is to give numerous visual aids, tricks and background to the topics. I add fun to it to give my students something to remember which is key to remembering how to solve problems, soon build in them self confidence that their brains are more reliable than a calculator!
Another thing is practice,practice and more practice! After each topic, numerous practice questions will be given to test depth of understanding and to explain further or throw more light on grey areas. The beauty of constant practice is the development of skill till the concept is totally understood and applying it would be as normal as walking.
