I studied Educational Administration in unilag. I have been teaching both nursery classes and primary classes for 6 years.I realized that children find it hard to read if they're not familiar with the sound of each letter.But they perform better when they're introduced to phonics because it makes them to be familiar with sounds and easily blend letters together and also to be able to read on their own.
I realized also that some children find it hard to identify numbers and letters but with the use of flashcards,number charts they tend to perform better.A trial will convince you and you won't regret it
