I use instructional materials e.g videos on sounds, transcribing the sounds on a chart for the children to see. I teach initial blends and final blending of words.
I ensure that pupils repeat sounds and can link each sound with words. I help children understand how to split up words into their individual letter sounds and repeat them to ensure they are hearing all the sounds before re-blending them together.
I also teach sight words or tricky words and ensure they can differentiate between homophones, homonyms, and homographs. Lessons are always so much fun as children enjoy every step as they achieve success in reading.
