With my time teaching kids, I have come to find out they have great challenge in reasoning skills. Most times this boils down to the fact, they had always had it explained to them thoroughly before they can take the challenge.

With my holistic approach to teaching, I let children find out how a particular number fits into a problem. This is where the kids get to drill themselves mentally.

When kids get to understand that every problem has a solution, they tend to apply the same when dealing with word problems and mental skills thereby making them reason.

Funny enough when dealing with quantitative reasoning, a child tends to find out there could be more than one solution to a problem when he applies "filling in the dots ".
