From experience, Mathematics is a subject a lot of students do not enjoy engaging in. They do it perfunctorily. My job as a teacher is to kindle in them the love for Maths. One-on-one time with my children avail me the opportunity to provide additional explanation on topics which they find puzzling. I take my time to explain these topics and make sure they are comfortable asking questions they would rather not ask in school. The first thing I do is to make them interested in me, and then I extend that interest to Maths.
A lot of children feel discouraged when they continuously get wrong answers to questions, and they erroneously believe that they are not good at Maths. I encourage my students to make mistakes but not dwell on them, but rather make corrections and then get the right answers. I inspire my students to believe that they are capable of solving seemingly difficult questions, because success begins from the mind. Most importantly, I encourage my students to practice on their own, because I believe that knowledge is consolidated that way; and most importantly, practice makes perfect.
