How I can help

Sign Language

More than 3 years experience

I am the Founder of Collaboration Of The Deaf and Hearing Enterprise, a social enterprise that is focused on promoting the Linguistic Identity of the Deaf community and we do this by promoting Sign language. I have been teaching Sign Language professionally for the past four years. But before then I have been volunteering as an interpreter for 'The Christian Mission For The Deaf Church', Yaba.

Sign Language is my first language and I have been using it from my childhood. I have further added more knowledge by applying to join the "Association Of The Sign Language Interpreters Nigeria". I have been trained and also certified as a competent Sign language Interpreter. Learning the Sign language is like learning other languages, all it takes is commitment and constant practice.

In making this language easier to learn, I give my students first in-hand experience by providing a platform where they can communicate with people whose first language is the sign language, I also ensure practical classes are held more often. The first step is to learn the alphabets in signs once this is mastered, words can be introduced to expressive and receptive signs.

The secret of this language is frequent communication. I have been able to interpret spoken words to sign languages at various seminars for people with hard of hearing, churches, and events. I have also been able to teach an adult that had never been to school or had any prior idea about sign language in 3 months.
