Basic Mathematics
More than 10 years exprience
Basic Mathematics is a subject that is taught and learned in layers. Hence, if one layer is missing, it must be replaced. For example, you cannot learn Logarithms and Indices in SSS class without learning fractions and equations in Basic 5 or 6. This is why, over the years, whenever a child I'm tutoring has issues with a topic or area in Basic maths, I try to identify the underlying topic(s) or area(s) which need to be treated first and build up. Also, if the Maths textbook we use isn't sufficient in providing enough content and practice exercises, I always get other textbooks.
Over the years, I have prepared candidates for common entrance examinations, and entrance exams into top schools like Greenspring, Corona among others. A good teacher needs to have a pool of practice exercises to administer to the child or children he is tutoring, hence, the need to also go online and download additional textbooks and relevant practice exercises. Most importantly, I try to be mathematical or logical in introducing solutions. It all depends on the level of mastery of the child.
